The MOT test is necessary for cars registered for three or four years. Afterwards have to be tested once again every two years (except from taxis and rental cars where MOT test is required every year).Passing the MOT test is also a requirement for renewing the Road Tax. 
When a vehicle fails the MOT test it has to be re-tested after undertaking the necessary repairment.

The MOT test covers:

• Tyres and Road Wheels
• Seat Belts
• Body, Structure and General Items
• Exhaust, Fuel and Emissions
• Drivers View of the Road

MOT test certificate confirms that at the time of test, the vehicle has met the minimum acceptable environmental and road safety standards.
The test takes about 30 minutes to be completed.
